Next Nissan GT-R to Go Hybrid While Retaining Iconic Engine

The next generation of the Nissan GT-R is set to embrace hybrid technology, with Nissan planning to electrify its flagship performance model while keeping key elements of its heritage intact.

Central to that plan is the continued use of the VR38 engine block, a core component of the current GT-R’s identity. Rather than replacing it entirely, Nissan is expected to pair it with an electrified system to boost performance and efficiency.

The move toward hybridisation reflects tightening emissions regulations and the broader shift within the automotive industry, but Nissan aims to ensure the GT-R retains its signature character.

Expected to arrive before the end of the decade, the new model is likely to deliver improved power and faster acceleration thanks to the addition of electric assistance, while also enhancing overall responsiveness.

The hybrid setup could also help the GT-R remain competitive against increasingly electrified rivals, blending traditional performance with modern technology.

While full details remain limited, the approach suggests Nissan is focused on evolution rather than a complete reinvention, preserving the essence of the GT-R while adapting it for a new era.
