Ford has left open the possibility of potentially bringing back one of its most cherished small hatchbacks to the European market. The Fiesta, discontinued in 2023, remains the subject of speculation following recent comments from Ford Europe President Jim Baumbick. In an interview with the BBC, Baumbick acknowledged the deep affection for the model without confirming any plans but indicated that future updates could be forthcoming.
“I have nothing to share today, but I can assure you that there is no doubt in my mind. I know there’s so much love for the Fiesta and the Fiesta name, and we’ll have some news to share in the future,” he stated. Industry observers expect any new Fiesta would feature electric power or a hybrid setup, aligning with Ford’s heavy investments in EV production across Europe.
The Fiesta has enjoyed massive popularity since its launch in 1976, with more than 22 million units sold worldwide. While it exited the US market in 2019, the model continued serving European buyers alongside the Focus until production wrapped up a few years ago.
Ford CEO Jim Farley has also signaled broader ambitions for passenger cars in Europe, hinting at exciting plans that may include revivals of models like the Fiesta and Focus. The company is preparing multiple new vehicles globally, including affordable electric options for the US market.
This potential return could mark a welcome shift for enthusiasts who have missed the Fiesta’s blend of practicality and driving fun in the European segment.
