Audi has officially confirmed it will develop a fully electric successor to the TT, marking the return of one of its most recognizable sports car nameplates — this time powered exclusively by batteries.
Originally launched in 1998, the TT ran through three generations before production ended in 2023. Known for its distinctive design and compact, driver-focused character, the model became a symbol of Audi’s more emotional side. Now, the brand is preparing to reinterpret that formula for the electric era.
According to company leadership, the upcoming model will not be a simple retro revival. Instead, it is being positioned as a design-led, emotionally engaging electric sports car that will sit below Audi’s larger performance EVs. The aim is to retain the TT’s core attributes — agility, sharp handling and bold styling — while adapting them to a modern EV platform.
Although technical specifications have not yet been disclosed, the electric TT successor is expected to utilize one of the Volkswagen Group’s next-generation electric architectures. Higher-performance variants could feature dual-motor all-wheel drive, while engineers are likely to prioritize weight management and chassis tuning to preserve the nimble driving dynamics that defined earlier TTs.
Audi has emphasized that even as it expands its SUV-heavy electric lineup, there remains space for lower-volume, driver-oriented models. The decision to revive the TT name underscores the brand’s intention to maintain performance and design as central pillars of its identity in the transition to electrification.
An official debut timeline has not been announced, but Audi has confirmed the project is progressing toward production rather than remaining a concept-only idea.
