BMW has offered the first glimpse of its upcoming i3, previewing a new fully electric sedan scheduled to debut on March 18. The model is set to become a key part of the brand’s next generation of EVs and will play an important role in BMW’s broader electrification strategy.

Unlike the original i3, which arrived as a compact city-focused hatchback, the new version is expected to move into a completely different segment. Reports suggest it will take the form of a midsize electric sedan positioned close to the 3 Series, giving BMW a direct EV alternative in one of its most important categories.

The teaser image reveals a streamlined silhouette with a long wheelbase and short overhangs, hinting at a more modern and aerodynamic design. Slim lighting elements and a cleaner front-end interpretation also suggest the car will follow BMW’s latest styling direction seen on its recent concept vehicles.

Under the surface, the upcoming i3 is expected to ride on BMW’s new Neue Klasse electric architecture. The platform is designed to significantly improve efficiency, battery performance, and charging speeds, while also allowing longer driving ranges compared with current BMW EVs.

Neue Klasse will serve as the foundation for several future electric models, making the i3 one of the first production vehicles to showcase the technology in its final form.
