BMW Transforms M3 Touring Wagon Into A Dedicated Track Race Car

BMW has unveiled a race-prepared version of the BMW M3 Touring, transforming the practical performance estate into a machine built specifically for the track.

While it retains the core identity of the road-going M3 Touring, the race version receives a long list of motorsport-focused modifications. The exterior has been heavily reworked with aggressive aerodynamic upgrades, including a much larger front splitter, widened fenders, and a prominent rear wing designed to generate significantly more downforce at high speed.

Weight reduction is another major part of the transformation. Several standard components have been replaced with lightweight racing parts, helping improve performance and agility on track. Inside, the cabin has been stripped down and rebuilt with a full roll cage, racing seats, and the necessary safety equipment required for competitive motorsport use.

Under the hood, the car continues to use BMW’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine. However, the powertrain has been optimized for racing conditions and paired with a motorsport-focused drivetrain setup designed to handle the demands of sustained track driving.

The project highlights the performance potential of the M3 Touring platform, which originally debuted as the first wagon version of the iconic BMW M3. While this race variant is not intended for public roads, it shows how the practical performance wagon can be transformed into a serious track machine.
