BMW has confirmed that its iconic V8 and inline-six engines will remain in production, even as stricter Euro 7 emissions standards come into force.
Despite the industry-wide shift toward electrification, BMW stated that combustion engines will continue to play a major role in its lineup. This includes the brand’s well-known inline-six units found in models like the BMW M3, as well as V8 engines used in larger performance and luxury vehicles.

However, the introduction of Euro 7 regulations will make it more challenging to maintain current performance levels. Stricter emissions limits are expected to require additional engineering solutions, which could lead to reduced power outputs or changes in how these engines deliver performance.
BMW emphasized that customer demand remains strong for traditional engines, particularly in performance segments where sound, character, and long-distance usability still matter. As a result, the company plans to continue refining its combustion engines to meet future requirements.

Rather than going fully electric in the short term, BMW is sticking to a multi-path strategy, combining internal combustion, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains. This approach allows the brand to adapt to different markets while gradually expanding its EV portfolio.
For now, BMW’s message is clear: the V8 and inline-six aren’t disappearing — but the Euro 7 era may reshape how they perform.
