Ferrari 296 Challenge Stradale Spied With Aggressive Aero Upgrades

Fresh spy shots indicate that Ferrari is moving ahead with a more extreme, Challenge Stradale-style version of the 296. Camouflaged prototypes, believed to be based on the 296 GTB, have been spotted testing with noticeable aerodynamic revisions and chassis enhancements.

Up front, the test car appears to feature a more aggressive bumper design with larger air intakes and revised cooling channels. At the rear, a bigger diffuser and subtle aerodynamic refinements suggest a focus on increased downforce. The prototype also sits lower, reinforcing expectations of a more track-oriented setup compared to the standard 296 GTB.

Earlier speculation hinted at the possibility of a non-hybrid configuration, but the current test vehicles do not clearly confirm whether Ferrari will retain the existing plug-in hybrid V6 system. In standard form, the 296 GTB produces 819 hp from its twin-turbocharged V6 paired with an electric motor. Rather than pursuing dramatic power increases, a Challenge Stradale variant would likely emphasize reduced weight, recalibrated suspension, sharper steering response and enhanced aerodynamic efficiency.

Historically, Ferrari’s Challenge Stradale and Speciale models prioritize driver engagement over headline output figures, focusing on chassis balance and emotional connection on track.

A debut could take place within the next year, potentially making this the most focused and performance-driven version of the 296 lineup.
