Mercedes-AMG is preparing a new C 53 Estate, with camouflaged prototypes recently spotted ahead of an expected debut. The performance wagon is set to become a key part of AMG’s revised C-Class strategy, positioned above the C 43 while steering clear of the four-cylinder hybrid approach that defined the outgoing C 63.
The test cars wear heavy camouflage but clearly show AMG-specific details, including larger air intakes, flared wheel arches, quad exhaust tips and upgraded braking hardware. The long-roof silhouette confirms AMG’s intention to keep a practical performance estate in the lineup alongside its sedans.
Power is widely expected to come from a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine paired with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. Output is tipped to be around 440 hp, placing it comfortably above the C 43 while offering smoother delivery, stronger mid-range punch and a more engaging sound than the controversial four-cylinder C 63 hybrid.

The drivetrain is likely to include AMG’s nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive, ensuring strong traction and everyday usability. Chassis upgrades are also expected, with adaptive suspension and rear-wheel steering likely included to strike a balance between performance and comfort.
The C 53 Estate fits neatly with AMG’s recent acknowledgment that buyers in this segment value six-cylinder character and real-world usability over complex electrified setups. While Mercedes-AMG has yet to confirm an official reveal date, the advanced state of the prototype suggests a launch within the next year.

For fans of fast wagons, the C 53 Estate could emerge as a modern successor to earlier AMG estates that successfully blended pace, practicality and personality.
