European enthusiasts have long embraced BMWs sharper M models, but the latest M3 CS variant caters squarely to American demand for pure driver engagement. The 2027 BMW M3 CS Handschalter arrives as a manual transmission only, North America exclusive model that pairs CS level lightness and dynamics with a traditional six speed stick.

Under the bonnet sits the familiar 3.0 litre twin turbo inline six from the standard M3, producing 473 hp and 406 lb ft of torque. BMW opted against the more potent 550 hp unit because the manual gearbox cannot handle the extra output. Even so, the rear wheel drive Handschalter should sprint from 0 to 97 kph in an estimated 3.8 seconds.
The car borrows extensively from other CS variants for its weight saving diet, including a carbon fibre roof, splitter, boot lid, seatbacks and centre console. It also features M4 CSL engine mounts, the previous M3 CS titanium exhaust and dampers, plus M2 CS springs. Without the all wheel drive front driveshaft, engineers lowered the suspension by roughly 6 mm, dropping the centre of gravity for sharper handling. Unique camber settings, adaptive damper tuning and electronic limited slip differential calibration complete the chassis package.

Optional carbon ceramic brakes, a front strut brace and track focused tyres are available, alongside comforts such as a head up display and power operated boot lid. BMW plans to build fewer than 1000 examples. Production begins in Germany now, with first deliveries to US dealers expected this autumn. Pricing starts at €108,450.

While European buyers miss out on this pure manual CS, they can look forward to their own special treat in the form of the M3 CS Touring wagon. The Handschalter gives American fans a rare chance to row their own gears in one of the sharpest M3 variants yet.
