BMW has officially unveiled the new eighth-generation 3 Series, bringing its iconic sports sedan into the Neue Klasse era. For the first time, the combustion powered 3 Series adopts the same design language as the electric i3, while keeping four and six cylinder engines under the bonnet.

At the top of the range sits the M350 xDrive, powered by a 3.0 litre turbocharged straight-six with 48V mild hybrid technology. European specification cars produce 443 PS and 580 Nm, with xDrive and an eight speed automatic sending it to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

But the biggest surprise is software. During 2027, the M350 will receive Drift Moment, a new function that can send all engine drive to the rear wheels. Activated through the central display with DSC switched off, it allows controlled power slides, a feature previously associated with BMW M’s high performance models. Even cars delivered before the feature arrives can receive it through a Remote Software Upgrade.

The new 3 Series also gets BMW’s latest Panoramic iDrive, combining a full width projection across the windscreen with a 17.9 inch central display, optional 3D Head Up Display and BMW Operating System X. The cabin is controlled through a new central spoke steering wheel and an updated digital interface.

Outside, the sedan follows the Neue Klasse formula with a cleaner front end, flush door handles and a more sculpted body, while the M350 adds its own aerodynamic details and quad exhausts.

The new combustion powered 3 Series enters production in the second half of 2026, with European deliveries following in early 2027.
