Bugatti has officially completed production of the W16 Mistral, marking the end of the brand’s legendary road going W16 engine after two decades. The final example, finished in an elegant two-tone ‘Pearl’ and ‘Sparkle’ exterior, proudly carries the inscription “The last of its kind,” symbolising the conclusion of one of the most iconic powertrains in automotive history.

The milestone comes just days after the inauguration of La Manufacture, Bugatti’s new production facility in Molsheim that will build the upcoming Tourbillon. With the W16 Mistral, the company closes a chapter that began with the Veyron, continued through the Chiron and ultimately reached its open top finale with the limited production roadster.

First revealed during Monterey Car Week in 2022, the W16 Mistral made history in November 2024 when the World Record Car reached 453.91 kph, becoming the fastest open top production car ever built. Production was limited to 99 individually commissioned examples, each created through Bugatti’s Sur Mesure personalisation programme.

The final car pays tribute to the brand’s heritage with Ettore Bugatti’s signature featured on the headrests, aluminium door sills and engine cover. A bespoke Lalique crystal glass insert engraved with “Spirit of the Wind” further reflects the owner’s personal vision while celebrating Bugatti’s long standing relationship with the renowned French glassmaker.

Power comes from Bugatti’s iconic quad turbocharged 8.0 litre W16, producing 1,600 PS and 1,600 Nm of torque. With all 99 examples now built, the W16 Mistral closes the road going chapter of Bugatti’s legendary sixteen cylinder engine as the marque prepares to enter the Tourbillon era.
