The wait for a new Nissan Skyline is finally coming to an end. Nissan has confirmed that the 14th generation Skyline will make its world debut in December 2026, bringing the nameplate into a new era after more than a decade with the current V37 generation.

Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa has described the new Skyline as an important model for the company’s recovery, while also making it the first Nissan developed under the brand’s accelerated vehicle development process.

That process is perhaps the most surprising part of the story. Nissan says development of the new Skyline took just 26 months, compared with around 55 months for its predecessor. AI capabilities, digital design tools, virtual development and greater use of simulation helped Nissan dramatically shorten the process.

Production will take place at Nissan’s Tochigi plant in Japan, a facility with a long history of building the company’s performance models, including the Skyline and Fairlady Z.

Nissan’s teasers suggest a strong connection to Skyline history, with a modern interpretation of classic design cues, sculpted bodywork and distinctive round style rear lighting.

Technical details remain largely under wraps, although reports point to a rear wheel drive sports sedan and a possible evolution of Nissan’s 3.0 litre twin turbo V6. A manual gearbox has also been rumoured, but Nissan has yet to confirm the final engine or transmission lineup.

The new Skyline is expected to be primarily a Japanese market model, with no European launch confirmed at this stage.

After more than a decade of waiting, December will finally show whether Nissan can turn one of Japan’s most recognisable automotive names into a genuine new generation performance icon.
