BMW may have ended Z4 production earlier this year, but the iconic roadster is getting a second life. Bovensiepen, founded by the family behind Alpina, has revealed its new Spider, a limited run interpretation of the Z4 M40i.

Created in collaboration with designer Frank Stephenson, the Spider retains the Z4’s 3.0 litre turbocharged straight six but receives extensive upgrades. Output rises to 429 hp (435 PS) and 580 Nm, sent exclusively to the rear wheels through an eight speed automatic transmission.

The result is a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds, while retuned dampers, forged 20 inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres sharpen the driving experience.

An optional Performance Package adds further chassis upgrades and increases the top speed limiter from 260 to 295 km/h. A larger brake package is also available.

Visually, Bovensiepen has kept the changes relatively restrained. New arch vents, a gloss black splitter, revised side skirts and a larger rear spoiler give the Spider a more purposeful appearance without losing the Z4’s original character.

Inside, the roadster receives Vernasca leather and Alcantara, while the steering wheel is wrapped in Bovensiepen’s signature Lavalina leather. Customers can also specify extensive bespoke finishes.

Production will be limited to just 99 examples, with prices starting at €115,500 in Germany including taxes. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

BMW may have closed the book on the Z4, but Bovensiepen clearly isn’t ready to let the roadster disappear just yet.
