Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the 2027 GLC53, signaling a clear change in direction for its compact performance SUV. The new model abandons the previous four-cylinder layout in favor of a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six, underlining AMG’s renewed emphasis on traditional performance character.

The straight-six produces roughly 443 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, supported by a short-duration overboost function that temporarily lifts torque to around 472 lb-ft. The engine combines a conventional turbocharger with an electric auxiliary compressor and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, improving throttle response and broadening torque delivery across the rev range.

Power is delivered through AMG’s 9-speed automatic transmission to the fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. To sharpen dynamics, the GLC53 also benefits from rear-axle steering, adaptive suspension and upgraded braking hardware, giving it a more focused feel than standard GLC models.

An optional AMG Dynamic Plus package adds further performance features, including Race Start launch control and a Drift Mode that allows the SUV to operate primarily in rear-wheel drive under specific conditions. When paired with the AMG Driver’s Package, this setup also raises the electronically limited top speed.

Visually, the GLC53 adopts restrained AMG styling, with a sportier front splitter, a more pronounced rear diffuser and exclusive wheel designs. For 2027, buyers will also be able to choose a Golden Accents Package, introducing distinctive exterior highlights and interior trim details.

The new GLC53 is expected to reach showrooms in the second half of 2026, reinforcing Mercedes-AMG’s shift back toward six-cylinder power and more engaging performance across its lineup.
