Toyota has revealed the 2027 Highlander in fully electric form, transforming one of its most established family SUVs into a battery-powered three-row model. The new generation drops gasoline and hybrid options entirely, moving to a dedicated EV platform designed to maximize interior space, range and day-to-day usability.
Production will take place at Toyota’s Kentucky plant, with battery modules supplied from a new facility in North Carolina. The redesigned Highlander features smoother bodywork, flush door handles and full-width LED lighting, giving it a cleaner, more modern presence. Inside, it continues to offer seating for up to seven passengers.
Two battery configurations will be available. Front-wheel-drive XLE models use a 77.0-kWh pack, while all-wheel-drive variants and the Limited trim receive a larger 95.8-kWh battery. With the bigger pack, Toyota estimates a driving range of up to 515 km on a single charge. AWD versions generate around 338 hp (253 kW) and 438 Nm of torque, delivering confident performance for a family-focused SUV.
The cabin adopts a technology-heavy layout, centered around a 14.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. Ambient lighting, multiple connectivity options and USB ports across all three rows aim to keep passengers comfortable and connected. Toyota Safety Sense driver-assistance systems come standard throughout the range.
The Highlander EV also supports the North American Charging System (NACS) for broad fast-charging access and includes vehicle-to-load capability, allowing owners to power external devices when needed.
Toyota expects the all-electric Highlander to reach dealerships in late 2026 or early 2027, marking a decisive step in the model’s shift to a fully electric future.
