Mercedes-AMG has officially confirmed the end of the C63, bringing production to a close and retiring one of its most recognizable performance badges. The current C63 S E Performance will not be replaced by a direct successor, marking the end of a lineage long associated with compact, high-powered sports sedans.

The latest C63 represented a major shift from tradition. Its naturally aspirated and later twin-turbo V8 engines were replaced by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid producing a combined 671 hp and 1,020 Nm of torque. On paper, the numbers were impressive, but the car struggled to win over loyal AMG buyers, many of whom criticized its added weight, muted sound and reduced emotional appeal.

Mercedes-AMG has since acknowledged that the model no longer matched customer expectations for the segment. Rather than continue refining a formula that failed to connect, the brand has chosen to retire the C63 name altogether.
Looking ahead, AMG plans to streamline its C-Class performance range. A new six-cylinder performance model is currently in development and will effectively replace both the discontinued C63 and C53. The goal is to deliver a more balanced mix of performance, sound and everyday usability, while also reducing complexity as emissions regulations tighten.

The C63’s exit represents more than the loss of a single model. It marks a broader shift in AMG’s performance philosophy, as the brand searches for a new balance between electrification and character.
For enthusiasts, the end of the C63 is a bittersweet moment, sealing its status as one of AMG’s most memorable creations and a symbol of a rapidly changing performance landscape.
