Audi has officially confirmed that the Q8 will receive a full next generation model, putting an end to speculation that the coupe SUV could disappear from the brand’s lineup. Although development is still in its early stages, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner revealed that the company has committed to a successor after initially having no plans for one when he took over the brand.

Introduced in 2018, the Q8 serves as Audi’s flagship two row SUV, combining the practicality of the Q7 with a sleeker coupe inspired design. The model received a facelift in 2023 and continues to be offered in standard Q8, performance focused SQ8 and high performance RS Q8 forms.

While Audi has not revealed any technical details, the next generation Q8 is expected to adopt the brand’s latest design language, updated interior technology and new electrified powertrains in line with Audi’s evolving combustion and hybrid strategy. Döllner has previously confirmed that internal combustion engines will remain part of Audi’s lineup well into the 2030s, suggesting the new Q8 will continue to offer petrol powered variants alongside increased electrification.

Audi has yet to announce a launch date, and the next generation Q8 is not expected to arrive for at least the next few years. Until then, the current model will continue to represent Audi’s sporty SUV offering, with the upcoming successor ensuring the Q8 remains a key part of the brand’s future lineup.
