Curvy New Audi A2 e-tron Set for VW ID.3 DNA and Autumn Debut
Audi is intensifying development of its new entry-level electric vehicle, the A2 e-tron. Recent testing footage shows the model racking up kilometres on Bavarian roads and drifting in snowy Lapland. Engineers are refining suspension, driver assistance systems, powertrain performance and thermal management in extreme cold, while wind tunnel work optimises airflow around the sloping roofline for better efficiency and refinement.

The compact EV will debut this autumn, reviving the name of Audi’s innovative early-2000s hatchback. It will serve as the fully electric counterpart to the combustion A3 and indirectly replace the discontinued A1 and Q2. Built on the updated MEB+ platform, it will sit as a more premium sibling to the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born.
Design draws heavily from the original A2 with a cab-forward silhouette, steeply raked windscreen and short bonnet for strong aerodynamics. It features a lower, sleeker roofline than the ID.3, an aggressive rear with two-piece glass tailgate, flared wheel arches and slim modern Audi daytime running lights.

Expected to offer a range of around 644 kilometres with rear-wheel drive powertrains, Quattro is unlikely. It will compete with the Volvo EX30 and Alfa Romeo Junior, plus upcoming BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A-Class models.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner stated: “The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever.”

It forms part of three key 2026 launches alongside the new Q7 and Q9 SUVs.
