Mitsubishi Revives Legendary Pajero Nameplate for New Off-Road SUV Set for Fall Reveal

Mitsubishi has officially confirmed the return of its iconic Pajero name on an all new cross country SUV, with the full reveal scheduled for this fall. The model marks a significant revival for the brand’s off road heritage, following the Pajero’s discontinuation in 2021 after nearly four decades and four generations of production.

The upcoming Pajero will utilize a robust ladder frame chassis shared with the Triton pickup truck, promising strong off-road capabilities. Mitsubishi describes the vehicle as a dedicated cross country SUV, featuring a unique cabin design and suspension setup tailored specifically for the model rather than directly carrying over from the Triton. Teaser images highlight bold, assertive front end styling highlighted by distinctive T shaped headlights.

While the Pajero was known as the Montero in the United States until its withdrawal from that market in 2006, Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed North American availability. However, the company trademarked the Montero name in 2024, leaving room for optimism among American enthusiasts eager for rugged body on frame SUVs.

Details regarding powertrains remain under wraps for now, but the global positioning suggests potential for broad international appeal. Production plans and exact specifications will likely emerge closer to the official unveiling later this year.
