Hennessey Unveils Blackbird Hypercar with 850 HP, Gated Manual and No Infotainment Screen

Hennessey has unveiled the Blackbird, its third in house hypercar and a striking departure from today’s technology heavy performance machines. Named after the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the new model is scheduled to enter production in 2029, following the end of Venom F5 production in 2028.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V8 developed with Ilmor Engineering, producing a targeted 800 to 850 hp and revving beyond 9,000 rpm. Unlike most modern hypercars, the Blackbird sends power exclusively to the rear wheels through a six speed gated manual gearbox, placing driver engagement ahead of outright lap times. Hennessey claims a 0–97 km/h (60 mph) sprint in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 354 km/h (220 mph).

Built around a carbon fibre monocoque with lightweight composite bodywork, the Blackbird targets a dry weight of under 1,360 kg. It rides on exclusive 20 inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, while its aviation inspired design incorporates active vertical stabilisers that deploy automatically at 114 km/h, paying tribute to its famous namesake.

Inside, Hennessey has embraced a deliberately analogue philosophy. A large 10,000 rpm tachometer takes centre stage, accompanied by physical gauges, switches and a rotary drive mode selector. There is no central infotainment display, with owners instead using a dedicated smartphone holder supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Practicality also improves over the Venom F5, with space for two carry on bags and four cupholders.

Production will be limited to 71 examples, each priced from $2.5 million before taxes. Hennessey says more than two thirds of the production run has already been reserved, with the Blackbird making its public debut at The Quail during Monterey Car Week later this month.
