nsport Minister Alexis Vafeades is meeting with Limassol’s local authorities to prioritise a series of road projects aimed at tackling the city’s growing traffic congestion. The government’s proposed programme, valued at €493 million, combines immediate improvements with long term infrastructure projects designed to ease pressure on some of Limassol’s busiest routes.

Short and medium term measures include targeted junction upgrades, new roundabouts, road improvements and the rollout of an Urban Traffic Control (UTC) system that will coordinate traffic lights across 50 signalised intersections to improve traffic flow.

Among the largest proposed projects are the Limassol–Saittas motorway (€80 million), a second road linking Germasogeia and Agios Athanasios (€24 million), and the Northern Bypass section between Ypsonas and Polemidia (€60 million). Additional projects moving towards tender or construction include a new roundabout at the Agios Athanasios–Anoikodomiseos junction and a new motorway exit at Pyrgos.

The longer term strategy also includes road widenings, new connecting routes and grade separated junctions, with local municipalities invited to submit their own proposals to help determine project priorities. According to the Transport Ministry, the aim is to create a coordinated plan capable of supporting Limassol’s continued residential and commercial growth while reducing congestion across the district.

If implemented as planned, the investment programme would represent one of the largest road infrastructure initiatives ever proposed for Limassol, with the goal of improving traffic flow and supporting the city’s long term mobility needs.
