Max Verstappen is swapping his Formula 1 car for a go kart next month as Red Bull puts the four time world champion through one of his most unusual racing challenges yet.
Called “Max vs 100”, the event will take place at Silverstone on 16 September 2026, with Verstappen starting at the very back of a 101 kart grid. His objective is simple: overtake all 100 drivers ahead of him and win the race.
The unique event has been created by Red Bull and will bring together a mix of Red Bull athletes, gaming talent, streamers, social media personalities, media figures and selected fans.
Rather than competing against a conventional professional field, Verstappen will have to work his way through a constantly changing group of rivals on a purpose built circuit at the home of the British Grand Prix.
For Verstappen, the challenge also represents a return to his racing roots. The Dutchman spent much of his early career in karting before reaching Formula 1, and he has remained an active supporter of the discipline.
The event will be broadcast live globally on Disney+, with the action also available through the ESPN App. There will be no spectators at Silverstone for the event itself.
Verstappen has already admitted that overtaking 100 karts will be extremely difficult, but the unpredictable nature of the race is part of the appeal.
With 100 drivers between him and victory, the biggest question is whether even an F1 world champion can find enough space to fight his way through the entire field.
One thing is certain: Silverstone is about to look very different on 16 September.
