The Mitsubishi Pajero is officially back. After a five year absence from global markets, Mitsubishi has unveiled an all new generation of its legendary off road SUV, positioning it as the brand’s new flagship.

Built in Thailand, the new Pajero will launch there first before arriving in Japan and Australia during fiscal 2026. From fiscal 2027, Mitsubishi plans to introduce it in around 100 countries, including markets across ASEAN, Latin America and the Middle East. Europe has not been included in Mitsubishi’s announced rollout plans.
The new model stays true to the Pajero formula with a highly rigid ladder frame, independent double wishbone front suspension and a five link rigid rear axle. Power comes from a specially developed 2.4 litre clean diesel producing up to 480 Nm, paired with a new eight speed automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II and Super All Wheel Control systems handle four wheel drive duties, while seven selectable drive modes include settings for mud, sand and rock. Ground clearance stands at 230 mm, underlining the Pajero’s serious off road intentions.
Measuring 4,920 mm long, the seven seat SUV also moves further upmarket inside. The cabin features dual 14.3 inch displays, three zone climate control, acoustic glass and a 12 speaker Yamaha sound system.

First introduced in 1982, the Pajero became one of Mitsubishi’s most important models, with more than 3.29 million units produced across four generations.
Its return will undoubtedly excite fans worldwide. But for European Pajero enthusiasts, one major question remains: will Mitsubishi eventually bring its iconic SUV back to Europe too?
